General Motors droht ab dem 3. April eine Geldstrafe von 7.000 US-Dollar pro Tag.

Sicherheitsbeamte des Bundes haben angekündigt, dass der amerikanische Autohersteller nicht genügend Informationen über den massiven Rückruf von Zündschaltern zur Verfügung gestellt hat und den amerikanischen Autohersteller wegen langsamer Reaktion bestrafen wird.

NHTSA hatte GM um Antworten auf 107 Fragen gebeten, um festzustellen, ob der amerikanische Autohersteller umgehend und gewissenhaft mit dem Sicherheitsmangel umgegangen war oder nicht. Diese Antworten waren am 3. April fällig, und nach Angaben der Sicherheitsbehörde blieb mehr als ein Drittel dieser Fragen zu diesem Zeitpunkt unbeantwortet.
